Comments: Relay of Tacolneston

At the time Peter Bigwood visited the site planning permission had been granted for a new tower at this site and his second photo shows work in progress...

Simon Crees: As a regular visitor to your site I noticed that the most recent pictures you had of Aldeburgh show the old tower (now dismantled) and the base of the new tower under construction about two years ago. I visited the site on 1-May-2005 and took these pictures.

The new tower appears to be about the same height as the old one but is of a more sturdy construction. It is also worth mentioning that this site now also carries BBC Radio Suffolk as a filler relay for the Suffolk coast. The receiving antennas for the TV signal from Tacolneston in Norfolk can clearly be seen about half way up on the long shot of the tower.
