BODMIN VHF
Photos by Patrick Collins
Patrick's first two photographs of the old Bodmin VHF station at SX072674 were taken in 1969. The relay was built in the late sixties to improve BBC 405-line reception in the town of Bodmin, but unfortunately during times of enhanced propagation it tended to retransmit incoming RBL interference from both ch2 (North Hessary Tor) and ch1 (Redruth). Bodmin transmitted on ch5.

After decommissioning the site was used for PMR, and latterly cellular. The original building, similar to the one in Bude, is still in use, now flanked by portacabins.
UHF and FM radio services to the area are currently provided from Penalligon Downs, whose coverage extends to Wadebridge. There is a later MF site to the east of the town, used for BBC Radio Cornwall, also known as Bodmin.
