Burnaston Lane is the MF site used by BBC Radio Derby - a rather unusual three wooden pole arrangement, similar to Lacock. The original Radio Derby 'Burnaston' site at SK298307 was moved a very short distance by the BBC in 1990. If I remember correctly they initially had trouble with the aerials regularly going out of adjustment and giving an unacceptable standing wave ratio measurement. The fault initially could not be traced, but eventually it was realised that it was numerous birds resting on the wires that was causing the problem. I believe a bird scarer of some kind was initially used to remedy this, but maybe a long term solution has now been found? |

As Lee's more recent photos show, the old Marconi "Tee" aerial st Burnaston Lane was replaced by a monopole in approx 2002.

| And our final batch of photos on this page was taken in July 2009 by Bill Wright, who proves that often, with MF sites, the most intereting subjects to photograph are not the main structure but all the odd things around them! | ![]() |
