THE TRANSMISSION GALLERY

CROYDON

Photos by David Foord

After the vintage black-and-white picture [here] the more recent photos below show how much more heavily the tower is populated  today, and how surprisingly close it appears to be to a residential area.

The Croydon site, as well as transmitting most of the independent local radio services to London, has also, in recent years, acquired UHF television capability. It transmits Channel 5 to London and the South-East and can also be pressed into service to transmit ITV and Channel 4 in the event of a major problem at Crystal Palace.

The site is located on the A215 Beulah Hill, at the corner of South Norwood Hill and Church Road.
