CRYSTAL PALACE

On this page we present a few vintage photos of the Crystal Palace mast.

The first (left) shows a close up of the four stacks of four Band I aerials.

The second (below) was probably taken in around 1962. We deduce this because it shows the mast with the experimental Band V aerials at the top. There is no sign of the BBC2 Band IV aerials which started testing on 3 Sep 1962 with an E.R.P. of 160kW before increasing to 500kW in Jan 1964.

The last photo on this page shows work being carried out on the installation of the Band IV aerials which susequently brought the first BBC2 service to London and the South-East.
