Eitshal, on the Isle of Lewis, in the Outer Hebrides, is one of the UK's most remote and weather-beaten sites.

Marcus Jones says: Made a passing visit during a day spent on the Isle of Lewis. Sadly, I really didn't have the time to travel to the top of the hill
but hopefully these pictures will be more up to date than the ones in the gallery at present. It really is a desolate place. The final shot is a view from the mast access road at the bottom of the hill. There is literally nothing for miles, and miles and miles. It's actually a very large island, which came as a bit of a suprise.
I drove the length and bredth of Lewis that day, and I was really shocked at how isolated it really is. Amazingly, there was some sunshine (it was late August), but with the wind blowing, it was really cold. What it's like here in the winter I dread to think.
