DOWNDERRY

Earlier pictures

This is the low power UHF TV relay at Downderry, near Seaton, in Cornwall, located - as you can see - in a very picturesque spot with great views.

Downderry was originally an IBA landlord site which entered service in March 1981 to serve a population of about 1400 people. Channel 4 was added on 4-Apr-1986.

The transmit aerials comprise two tiers of 120 degree crossed log periodics. There are two receive log periodics. One on Caradon Hill, the other on Redruth. The Redruth aerial is about ¾ up the tower on the right. Less obvious is the Caradon Hill aerial, which is a little lower and is pointing towards the camera. Tx lists indicated that the two BBC channels relayed Redruth, while the two IBA channels relayed Caradon Hill.
