GREAT MISSENDEN

Photos by Ben Smith, Carl Durrell and Roger Piper Page last updated: 2024-03-01

Great Missenden was originally a BBC landlord site which entered service on 29-Nov-1974 to serve 1,200 people. Channel 4 was added on 22-Aug-1986. DSO was on 4th and 18th April 2012.

Ben: The site is right in the middle of "Rock Wood", which is a Forestry Commission protected area. Access is via a 1/2 mile track through the trees, which was gated and padlocked, so I had to walk it!

Didn't notice the access track at first, until I saw the small Crown Castle signs that were screwed onto it.

Being in the middle of a wood, it was surrounded by trees, and these are the best photos I could get, but you can clearly see the transmitting arrays, pointing roughly westwards towards Great Missenden, and the receive trough on the south side of the tower for the Crystal Palace RBL. Lots of Crown Castle signs adorn the buildings, along with some from Dolphin, and NGW.
