THE TRANSMISSION GALLERY

PURIN HILL

Photos by Dan Glover Page last updated: 2017-02-19

February 2017

Since Mike Smith visited in 2005 the "big dishes" have gone from this BT site leaving the broadcast antennas more visible although not exactly prominent given the size and bulk of the structure.

The picnic tables and information boards are provided because of the site's potential to offer a good view. Mid-February may not provide the best conditions, however.

The Band II array comprises three dipoles giving maximum ERP on bearing 170. It's about two thirds of the way up, on the right as seen in the first image.

DAB. meanwhile, uses two pairs of phased dipoles further round the structure...

...and two yagis on the opposite side.

It's very likely the SHF dishes below the two DAB arrays are for the associated links.

From this side it is possible to see both DAB arrays. The Band II antenna is on the "middle leg" but not really visible against the tower.
