The Bexhill BBC medium wave transmitter opened in November 1953 and was part of the synchronised network on 1457 kHz (206 m) which carried the Home Service West region.

In the September 1972 wavelength changes it moved to 1052 kHz (285 m) and then in November 1978 a second transmitter was added on 693 kHz to carry Radio 2 whilst the old Radio 4 transmitter was switched to Radio 1.

BBC local radio was added on a third transmitter (1161 kHz) during the 1980s, and subsequently ILR joined the site on 945 kHz. The 1053 kHz service was withdrawn when Radio 1 moved to FM only.
