THE TRANSMISSION GALLERY

ASHTON MOSS (NGW)

Photos by Colin Simpkin Page last updated: 2019-05-16

July 2016

These are a few random photos which have just come to light, taken on a visit to the Ashton Moss NGW (Ashton Moss West) site in July 2016.

A view of the three masts, looking in the direction of Manchester. The signal is transmitted along the line of the masts, heading away into the distance. The building to the left houses the site's generator.

This photo is proof to all you doubters that we *do* have sunny days in Manchester! (Sometimes...)

It's funny what you find lying around in transmitter rooms!

The CD was the old backup media, having been apparently removed in October 2007, around the time the station was rebranded from "Capital Gold" to "Gold".

The audio processor was being replaced on the day of the visit, and this was the audio monitoring point while we adjusted the settings on the new processor. Funnily enough, the signal strength was pretty good!

Interestingly, the GPS display (top left), shows yet another alternative name by which this transmitter site is/has been known.
