THE TRANSMISSION GALLERY

HARROP EDGE

Photos by Alan Price Page last updated: 2016-11-26

Photos taken November 2016

Echoing what Julian says, this must be one of the best community radio transmitter sites. There are fantastic views over Greater Manchester and the Cheshire Plain, but unfortunately on the day of my visit, it was rain and mist.

Tameside Radio started broadcasting in September 2007, at 50 watts.

Compared to Julian's photos, only two towers remain now.

The broadcast installation is just 8 metres above ground.

One change is the addition of a small dish below the flat panel. As it points in the same direction as the panel, I assume it must be for some sort of backup studio to transmitter link.

This site has a number of microwave links.

Not sure which is Tameside's hut, is anybody 'in the know'?

Manchester city centre.

Hartshead Pike through the mist.

Glossop (with a reservoir in the Longdendale Valley behind).
