THE TRANSMISSION GALLERY
CRUBENMORE

BBC Radio Scotland on 93.0MHz is the only broadcast signal from this site. Programme source is from Grantown-on-Spey, about 35 miles to the North-East. A sign reading "FOUR WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLES ONLY BEYOND THIS POINT" was enough ... |
The Crubenmore tower seen centrally on the horizon, above the Dalwhinnie distillery. It would be a great site for a TV relay for Dalwhinnie which appears to have no DTT coverage. |
The track is as steep as it looks |

Composite stitch taken from the south. This shot gives the easiest view of all the contenders for the band II transmit aerial, which is likely to be a folded dipole, as is the case at the other two Radio Scotland, A9 filler sites at Blair Atholl and Dalnacardoch Wood. There are three on the left. The lowest of these, just above the mobile phone panel, is of the same design as at the other two sites. The Rx Yagi is clear in this photo. |
Close up. |
Closer still |
A 4 element band II Yagi used to receive the R.Scotland programme feed from Grantown. |
Not broadcast related, but indulge my curiosity at this interesting little omnidirectional array of horizontal folded dipoles. I understand it is used by the utilities companies for data collection and control using the 457-464MHz band reserved for the MPT 1411 specification for telemetry.†|
No mention of Arqiva on any of the cabins; just the usual O2, Vodafone etc. |
