STOCKPORT (RATCLIFFE TOWERS)

Photos by Alan Price Page last updated: 2016-11-29

Photos taken November 2016

Not far from the original TX site of KFM/Signal Cheshire, Mottram Towers, Imagine FM probably moved here to improve reception in Stockport town centre, where Romiley was poor. Around the same time, Imagine also moved studios to the famous Strawberry recording studios, where a point to point STL is in place - I doubt Romiley would have been line of sight.

These flats are in a good location, on a ridge running through the middle of Stockport, so an ideal site. Despite the low power (the usual 25 watts), Pure Radio covers the area well.

Around the back... since Julian's photos, Ratcliffe Towers has had cladding added.

Still around the back, this looks like the community radio side.

This funny shaped antenna must be the link to the Pure studios about 1.5 miles away. It seems to point in the right direction...

Over to Imagine FM's installation... two folded dipoles with a flat panel STL underneath, pointing towards Strawberry Studios.

For reference, the aerials point towards Winter Hill, so the STL is slightly off beam - it should be pointing roughly south west, but is pointing completely west. However, it's only a short hop, and there maybe another panel lurking somewhere.
