A Freedom of Information Request (see link below) has revealed the location and other details of the self-help transposer which once served Cheddar. It appears two structures were used, with the tx at ST458548 and rx at ST458549 - these locations are at Batts Combe Quarry and assumed to be inaccessible
The data indicates transmission would have been on channels 43/50/46/40 but with the comment that only 43 and 46 would have been needed to provide the local regional services for BBC1 and ITV respectively - it seems the main reason for the self-help was to avoid "wrong region" problems
The application for CR station Pulse (transmits on 104.4MHz from nearby Fry's Hill ST436557) included the following comment: "Due to the local topography and the demise of our local self help television relay due to the Digital switchover some of the above communities are unable to receive local/regional news without the aid of a satellite dish even though they live near the main Mendip transmitter, many have to obtain news coverage from the Stockland Hill transmitter."
Other data released by Ofcom indicates 1674 households would be served - the largest known target population for a self-help. It's unclear whether the decision not to convert to a digital self-help was ecomomic, technical or due to some other factor
