NORTH RONALDSAY (LINK SITE)
Photos by James Muir | Page last updated: 2020-09-19 |
I used a holiday to the Orkney Islands to hop over to remote North Ronaldsay for the day on Monday, 14 September 2020. In the process I got some photos of the SHF link facilities which appear to be largely unchanged from the 2014 photos taken by Robin and Dee Gant. |
General view of the two towers situated at the northerly tip of North Ronaldsay. Unusual to see major installations like these situated virtually at sea level. The dishes are pointing to Fair Isle and the south Shetland mainland. |
A closer view of the newer tower which, I believe, was constructed around 2009 to carry the DTT services to Scousburgh Hill on the south Shetland mainland by way of a 54-mile mainly sea path. |
Another general view of the towers with North Ronaldsay lighthouse in the background. |
The Britten-Norman Islander aircraft operated by Loganair on Orkney inter-island flights. Pictured at Kirkwall Airport shortly before my departure for North Ronaldsay. |
