Show historic services

September 2016

Alan: "Stone is one of the new transmitters for the Stoke & Stafford DAB multiplex. I noticed it was on one day (early in September) and went to take a look.

It reinforces coverage in the Stone area where Alsagers Bank and Pye Green can't reach."

Ofcom data shows the site in service from 27 July 2016 - only the local multiplex is carried.

There are lots of trees around the transmitter site, so to get a full glimpse of the tower I unusually had to go further away!

The DAB antenna is two dipoles, on the right near the small dish...

Editor's note: once upon a time this tower would have carried several yagis directed towards the other site used by the fire service radio system.

...mounted in front of a screen and with maximum ERP seemingly just west of north, towards Stone. There is a 20 dB null between south and west

Editor's note: as of October 2016 the local multiplex carried only Signal 1, Signal 2 and BBC Radio Stoke - is this the least-populated local multiplex?

It seems likely the transmitter is in an existing building
