During the 1980 franchise rounds, Granada proposed to re-align its territory which would have bought this relay under its control, moves that were met with fierce local resistance. It remained firmly under Sutton Coldfield's dependancy, bringing BBC Midlands and Carlton ITV to the Market town of Leek on the Staffordshire/Derbyshire border. Leek was originally a BBC landlord site which entered service on the 28th February 1975, with Ch 4 from March 1984.
