HASLINGDEN

Photos by Paul Martin Page last updated: 2023-11-01

May 2006

Haslingden is a relay of Winter Hill for TV, and of Holme Moss for FM radio.

The sloping wire MW aerial is for Asian Sound. The oddities are the two UHF log periodics trained on Winter Hill, as well as the trough aerials.

Haslingden was originally an ITA landlord site which entered service with BBC 1 & 2 in August 1971 to serve 23,000 people. ITV was added on 25-Aug-1972 and Channel 4 from 14-Jun-1985. The UHF cylinder contains a south facing cardioid. DSO was on 4-Nov and 2-Dec-2009.

BBC national FM radio entered service on 7-Jul-1989 with Radio 1 added on 10-Mar-1994. Asian Sound Radio launched on 3-Jun-1996. Rossendale Radio launched on 1-May-2010 on 104.7 MHz. Closed 5-Mar-2012.

OK, maybe two oddities at Haslingen. There's a boat abandoned here!
