This site must be one of the most picturesque in the country being in an especially attractive part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The site is about half a mile south of the village of Horton-in-Ribblesdale and brings television to the northernmost part of the Ribble Valley roughly from Helwith Bridge to head of the valley appropriately enough at Ribblehead which is a popular tourist spot for walkers and Settle-to-Carlisle Railway enthusiasts alike. This area is otherwise very much on the fringe of the Winter Hill and Lancaster transmitters - as a result, despite low power, Ribblesdale covers quite a wide area.

The first two photos demonstrate the beauty of the mast's location - it is situated in a farmer's field surrounded by trees and overlooked by Pen-y-ghent - one of the Three Peaks of the Yorkshire Dales. I struggled a bit to get detailed photos of the mast as the gates to the field were firmly tethered, but pictures 3 & 4 show 4 log periodics just beneath the distinctly lop-sided transmitting aerial. These point down the valley at Winter Hill which is 37 miles away.

Ribblesdale was originally an IBA landlord site which entered service in June 1980 to serve a population of about 500 people. Channel 4 was added on 2-Oct-1987.
