Comments: Penny Bridge is a relay of Winter Hill

August 2017

I can understand why it has taken until 2017 to get some pictures of this Winter Hill relay. Access is not easy, even though it is only in the middle of a field of sheep. I believe that Penny Bridge is the last English TV relay to feature on the mb21 Tx gallery.

Penny Bridge was originally a BBC landlord site which entered service in September 1981 with Channel 4 from May 1987.

A four tier open cardioid UHF transmit aerial facing northeast. The town of Penny Bridge is southwest of this site, so this relay must primarily serve the various hamlets north and east of the hill that it sits on. Much of Penny Bridge gets good reception of Winter Hill.

UHF receive at the top, then a telemetry dish. The purpose of the lower dish is unknown. It is only a receive dish.

UHF log periodic receiving Winter Hill.

Penny Bridge, the town.
