Comments: Urswick is a relay of Winter Hill

Show historic services

The Urswick TV relay serves the village of Great Urswick in Cumbria, which is screened from Winter Hill by some high ground called Birkrigg Common. The transmitter is to the south west of the village, at Little Urswick.

Urswick was originally a BBC landlord site which entered service on 10-Jul-1981 to serve 560 people. Channel 4 was added on 16-Oct-1987.

The equipment cabin for this relay is quite hard to spot, there is an electricity supply on poles which gets almost to the site before going underground. I found the cabin hidden by trees at the foot of a small cliff directly below the site (behind the house in the more distant view).

The view of the village is looking north east from the site.
