THE TRANSMISSION GALLERY

GRASSINGTON

Photos by Lee Goulding Page last updated: 2023-04-10

August 2003

Grassington is a dependant of Emley Moor and covers an area of mid-Wharfedale in the southern part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The area is beyond the coverage of Emley Moor and Skipton due to the high Barden Moor to the south. Grassington covers about an eight mile long strip of the dale from Burnsall in the south east to Grass Wood in the north west. It entered service in August 1980 and serves about 1200 people. Channel 4 was added on 12-Dec-1986.

The relay is on high ground about a mile east of Grassington which allows it to see over Barden Fell to Emley Moor which is about 35 miles to the south.

The 8 vertically polarised transmission aerials result in a transmission pattern from roughly north-west through south to south-east. There are 2 horizontal Yagis which receive directly from Emley Moor.
