Merthyr Tydfil Site Relocation

At some point, the original Merthyr Tydfil site became an obstacle to the mining operations in the area. A replica site some distance away was built to allow mining to continue.

Originally a BBC landlord site, BBC 2 entered service in the spring of 1969. BBC1 & ITV were added on 22nd December 1972, with S4C available from the launch on 1st November 1982. DSO was on 3rd and 31st March 2010.

The new site in the foreground has the self supporting cardioid whereas the old site had the 16" diameter structural GRP cylinder to support the antenna.
