YNYS OWEN
Photos by Ben Smith | Page last updated: 2023-10-03 |
This is the Ynys Owen TV relay site. You have to look hard to find the TV relay amongst the plethora of other equipment bolted to the structure. The access road is a public byway, and takes you right up to and past the tower - and at 340m elevation - wow; what a view! This simple, single-panel 80w ERP relay serves Aberfan and Ynys Owen (Ynys Owen is the Welsh for Merthyr Vale). The small vertically polarised panel is on the Eastern face of the tower, and faces roughly North-East into the valley. The single horizontally polarised RX log periodic is pointing almost exactly South - directly at the parent station of Wenvoe. Ynys Owen was originally an IBA landlord site which entered service on 23-Dec-1977 to serve 5,000 people. S4C was available from the launch on 1-Nov-1982. DSO 3rd and 31st March 2010. |
