Larne was originally a 37m tower built for 405-line BBC 1 and BBC FM radio. Both TV & radio entered service on 5th April 1965. There is a link to the BBC RD installation report summary, at the foot of this page. 405-line BBC 1 on channel 3 closed on the 4th July 1983. The tower was replaced by the current 45.7m structure for the addition of UHF TV, with BBC 2 entering service early in 1969. BBC 1 & ITV were added on 3rd September 1976, with Channel 4 from June 1984.

FM radio was re-engineered for mixed polarisation during 1984 and Radio's 1 & 4 were added on 10th May 1993, with Downtown Radio from 8th December 1998.
