STROUD

Photos by Ivan Judd and Mike Smith Page last updated: 2023-03-09

2002

A selection of photographs of the television transmitter at Stroud in Gloucestershire. It is a relay from the Mendip transmitter

Our intrepid cameraman Ivan Judd says: "Getting a good photograph of the mast is difficult as it's in the middle of some woodland."

Channel 4 was added at Stroud in June 1983. ILR Cheltenham & Gloucester (Severn Sound), 7-Mar-1988. Radio Gloucestershire from 3-Oct-1988. The ERP of the TV channels was increased from 500W to 1kW in 1998. This was a consequence of interim DTT at Ridge Hill which was co-channel.

These two pictures - taken by Mike Smith - show a more sparsely populated tower in 1988.

The two receive trough aerials pointing at Mendip. Above are the local radio Tx aerials.
Two tiers of slant polarised skeleton slots on three of the four sides only. NE, SE, & SW only.

At the top, on the left are two, vertically polarised, band II, log periodic receive aerials pointing towards Churchdown Hill.
