Famous for its 12th century ruined abbey, the village of Tintern lies at the bottom of the Wye Valley on the Welsh-English border, about 5 miles north of Chepstow. Tintern serves the village itself and nearby Brockweir. The valley is pretty deep, with steep wooded hills on both sides, making reception of Mendip or Wenvoe near impossible.
This is also a very inaccessible site, located in a forest on a hillside on the opposite side of the valley from the road. Access is by foot or 4x4 only, along a rather muddy dirt track through the middle of the forest.
Tintern was originally an IBA landlord site which entered service on 28-Feb-1986 to serve 850 people. |
