Originally an ITA landlord site, 405-line ITV, on VHF Ch 7, entered service on 30th January 1968. Closed July 1983. UHF TV commenced with 3 channels on 6th October 1972. Channel 4 was available from the launch on 2nd November 1982. The UHF cylinder contains a north-east facing cardioid.
Apart from Ferryside, Whitehaven holds the distinction of being the first station to be converted to all-digital operation as part of the national Digital Switchover programme on 14th November 2007.
ILR Carlisle (CFM) launched on 5th September 1995. BBC and Digital One DAB both entered service on 27th September 2007. |
