This site is just off a tiny (and I mean tiny, took me a while to find the turn!) road, which was about an inch deep in mud all the way and covered in pheasants. For what was not to be the last time today, I was glad to be in a Defender! On exiting the car, I heard a barrage of gunshots. A shoot appeared to be in progress. This could make life interesting, I mused. I donned my high-vis jacket.
The site is pretty much invisible from all approaches on the minor road, and can't be seen from the main road. Its nearly invisible. I drove down the road a few times, before settling on where I thought it was, grabbing the GPS (and the aforementioned high-vis vest!) and going for a walk.
The site was accessed by wandering up someone's drive, built in 2007 if the marks on the concrete were anything to go by. Not sure what the access was like before. There was no direct route to the transmitter, and not having a real desire to stick my head up above the high ground, I chose not to scramble up the bank, and instead to exercise my zoom lens and snap from the drive. Stacked array to transmit, 4 logs to receive, most likely on Long Mountain. A simple installation, with little else really to photograph.
I wandered back to the car under a hail of gunfire. |
