Dan: "I was nearby but on a dull day and with only my phone. This update is, therefore, just until someone can go back and do a proper job". Actually not much has changed unless you look closely Odd Hamstreet fact: the village features on stamps issued in 1991 to mark the 200th anniversary of the Ordnance Survey. Although the location of the relay is on the stamp the structure isn't marked |
Dave's photos are undated but show the tower relatively uncluttered... |
As seen on the last day of January 2016: Grey skies, grey tower, grey antennas, grey cars. The site is adjacent to a parking area behind some houses Comparing with the earlier photos a further level of mobile phone antennas has been squeezed in but there is very little change to the relay |
This looks like a photocopy from a black and white image in an old book...but it is possible to see the receive log is now somewhat lower than before - almost at the bottom of the parallel section of the tower |
This enclosure is very likely the original - two tiny modifications seem to have been made at DSO: there is an external power/generator socket on the side... |
...and a small GPRS antenna on the back The village is in a hollow and the relay stands on slighly higher ground. It is well-used though a few have elected to receive Dover instead |
The full site number has now been restored! |
Curious - there is just a single tower here...has someone been given a big box of "STRUCTURE 1" plates to fit everywhere or is there something I've missed? |
