THE TRANSMISSION GALLERY

PONTFADOG

Photos by David Neale Page last updated: 2016-07-15

This site is on the south side of the Ceiriog Valley a river that links with Dee near Chirk.

Pontfadog entered service in June 1980, with S4C available from the launch on 1st November 1982. DSO was on 28th October and 25th November 2009.

Marcus Jones comments: A discussion on the TX List between Ray Cooper and myself, led us to think there may be a link site from Moel-y-Parc to Pontfadog, as the hill at the back of Llangollen is considerably higher than Pontfadog and Glyn Ceiriog.

There are a pair of towers on the very top of the hill in question but it's not an official transmission site. We'll get back to Pontfadog and take some bearings for the receive aerials, and plot the direction on a map to solve the mystery once and for all !

(It's hard to make out on David's photo but it appears that Pontfadog's Rx log is horizontally polarised).
