Photos by John Martin and Robert Gordon Page last updated: 2018-03-03

August 2010

Originally a BBC landlord site, TV channels 1 - 3 entered service on 21st May 1976, with Channel 4 from September 1987.

The Dunkeld relay is situated on Newtyle Hill, above the twin towns of Birnam and Dunkeld in Perthshire.

John's photos were taken on 4 August 2010, a significant date as this was first stage of DSO.

The above photo, from Robert Gordon, dates from 2006 and shows the structure surrounded by trees...

John has been able to get a bit closer...

Editors note: I think we have two transmit panels at the top.

Further down we find two vertical logs and a horizontal log...

...all of which seem to be pointing in slightly different directions. The horizontal log would be pointing towards Craigkelly, which was the RBL source for the two BBC channels, prior to DSO.
