THE TRANSMISSION GALLERY

DUMFRIES SOUTH

Photos by James Muir Page last updated: 2021-10-31

DAB added - October 2021

This is an extremely difficult site to get good photos of due to the dense woodland and inaccessible farmland beside it.

The BBC National DAB multiplex entered service on 16-Dec-2008 at Dumfries South.

Note the DAB aerials atop the tower. Although difficult to see here, there are 4 tiers of band III dipoles. The satellite dish receiving the DAB programme feed can also be seen.

The BBC National DAB mux entered service in December 2008. Ofcom parameters state that the main direction of transmissions is northwards towards Dumfries town centre, and eastwards towards the area on the eastern bank of the River Nith that is shielded from Sandale transmissions.

A closer view of the top of the tower.

The UHF Tx logs look unchanged from earlier photos, and both the Sandale (now redundant) and Caldbeck Rx logs appear to have been retained.

From another angle the 4 tiers of dipoles can just be seen.
