Comments: Relay of Carmel

Greenhill is a relay of Carmel. This is a bit strange considering it has a direct line of sight to the closer main station at Presely. However, from these old photographs (taken in approx 1990) you can see why.

Greenhill is situated to the west of Pembroke on a hill overlooking the former Power Station site. When the site was put into service in 1978 a rebroadcast link from Presely would have been affected by the huge 217m chimney.

>Greenhill serves the Milford Haven, Neyland, Pembroke and Pembroke Dock areas where direct service from Presely is poor, although parts of Pembroke Dock now have their own relay. Several mobile phone antennas have been added to the tower since these photographs were taken.

Pembroke Power Station was oil-fired, and mothballed in the nineties due to high oil prices. It was mostly demolished in early 2001.
