This site is located on Southowram Bank Top which is a very high ridge overlooking the town from the east. The views of Halifax are excellent from here as picture 1 clearly shows. Large areas of Halifax have a clear line of sight to Emley Moor and the relay is only widely used in the north, east and centre of the town which is shadowed by the bank on which the relay resides. Further afield, the Halifax relay also covers Elland, parts of Brighouse and along the Calder Valley about as far as Sowerby Bridge. Picture 2 shows the mast looking across southern Halifax towards the upper Calder valley. |

Gary's new photos show the addition of a flat panel STL [studio-transmitter link] antenna & a folded dipole broadcast antenna, which are used by Phoenix Radio, the Halifax based community station. The station transmits at 25w ERP. According to the drawings submitted for the planning application, the flat panel is 8m AGL, the dipole 36m AGL.
