Comments: Relay of Winter Hill

The Lees site is located to the south of Lees which is a district of east Oldham. Much of this area struggles to get good results from either Winter Hill or the nearby Saddleworth relay due to being on the south-facing side of high Pennine hills. Apparently, signals from The Wrekin are excellent in many parts of Oldham and probably here too, but West Midlands is not the tv region of choice in industrial Lancashire.

An odd tower arrangement here with two apparently strapped together. The first two photos show the mast which is at the end of a farm road. The third shows the receive and transmit aerials in more detail. The two lower aerials receive the feed from Winter Hill, the higher set is used for broadcasting. Available channels are in short supply here due to the significant number of relays in the area and the loftiness of the district. This explains the use of horizontally polarisation at this site.
