Comments:

Lichfield was the second ITA site, which began broadcasting in February 1956. The current mast was built in 1961. 405-line transmissions ended on 3 January 1985, and the radio stations it transmitted were gradually transferred to nearby Sutton Coldfield.

The mast came back into service in 1997 as a Channel 5 transmission site. The service area covers a large part of the Midlands.

Mike Smith took the rather amusing black-and white photo of the Lichfield mast in around 1983 - showing that some people will go to almost any lengths to assure good television reception!

and finally... this shot of Sutton Coldfield, taken from Lichfield by Peter Bigwood using a digital camcorder with a 15x zoom...
