Comments: Mallaig is a TV relay of Torosay (via Glengorm) and an FM relay of Fort William (via Oban and Glengorm)

Mark Carver took a video camera to Scotland in 1996 and these stills are taken from his Video 8 tape.

The f eed station for TV and FM services is Glengorm, though the originating main transmitters are Blackhill (via Torosay) and Fort William FM.

Two separate masts. The right hand one for receiving aerials, the left for transmitting. The folded dipoles radiate the six FM radio services, and the arm with the two UHF dipoles can be seen just below.

Since Mark visited the site more than 10 years ago it's no surprise that a site share tower has been added to the Mallaig site. Martin Briscoe took these photos from the ferry so detail is slightly limited but it's clear that the tv relay is now on the tower, but have the FM aerials been upgraded too? They look from these photos to be a combination of horizontal dipoles and an end-fed vertical, but the angle could be deceiving. What does the jury think? You can just about make out that the FM rx aerials are still on the wioden pole, behind the tower in these shots.
