Comments: Millthrop is a relay of Kendal (via Sedbergh)

Millthrop is a relay of Sedbergh, itself a relay of Kendal. The significance really is that BBC programs originate in Manchester via Winter Hill, Lancaster, Kendal, Sedbergh to Millthrop, whereas ITV Border (not Granada) is line fed to Kendal, then to Sedbergh, then Millthrop.

Our first two photos show the former wooden pole with Band II, Band III and Band IV receiving aerials which fed a privately wired cable-system to homes in this village in the NW corner of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. They date from around 1990 and show the old system about to be replaced by a BBC/IBA transposer. The "new" equipment was a 20m lattice tower, with the transmitting log-periodic aerials pre-mounted. Also visible is the brown derrick pole used for erecting the new mast.

Like many similar sites it has been re-developed again and the lattice tower shown here has now itself given away to the larger, more substantial structure to accommodate cellular 'phone equipment. Here is Millthrop in its latest reincarnation...
