Sean: Pur Down is a BT site and provides some stunning views of Bristol and the surrounding areas. It's also one of those sites that is easy to see, yet deceptively difficult to reach - even with a good map!
The digital antennas are clearly seen
in the second photo - the stacked pair on the left and right. In between them (next to the microwave horn) are two slanted folded dipoles. It makes sense (to me at least!) that these are most probably the FM broadcast antennas. I had a good look round the mast and couldn't see any other similar aerials, so they must be.
The first FM station to broadcast from here was Galaxy Radio (on 97.2 - before they won the regional licence. They kept Pur Down as their filler for Bristol - Mendip can be notoriously difficult to receive in the city) at a power of 200W.
If anyone can prove me wrong about the FM antennas - please do... |
