THE TRANSMISSION GALLERY

STOCKLAND HILL

Photos by Babcock Networks Ltd., Martin Watkins and mb21

On these pages we will give you some idea of the work involved in updating a high power main statuion in the run-up to digital switchover. We are indebted to Laura, Ian, Colin and the team working at Stockland Hill for their help and co-operation.

First the old reserve aerial is taken down...

Here the jib has been delivered and is being assembled...

Meanwhile, at the top of the mast, the mountings for the jib are being installed...

The old cylinder is lifted off...

The job seems to be going well!

And down it goes... The cylinder assembly weighs about 3.2 tons.

A section of the old access platform had aready been removed to allow the installation of the jib.

These shots look a bit murky due to the temporary low cloud cover
