West Howe is the site - at a waterworks - with puts out The Fire. It serves Bournemouth on 107.6MHz from a simple vertically mounted folded dipole aerial installed at the very top of the mast, which can be seen in the close-up. For a station that radiates only 100W, it provides very good local coverage, due to the site being high up on hills overlooking Bournemouth.

Since Andy's photos were taken in 2003 Lloyd reports that The fire has upgraded its aerial system with "mixed" results:

"I'd heard that Fire 107.6 had upgraded to 1kw mixed polarisation, but everywhere I have been reception has seemed the same or worse. They are now using two yagis mounted slanted with (I think) one pointing to Bournemouth and the other to Poole. I would imagine that reception has improved in the town centres but most of the additional signal is going out to sea. Also because of the directional properties the signal has decreased in other areas.
