Installation of jib and removal of old UHF cylinder

On these pages we will give you some idea of the work involved in updating a high power main station in the run-up to digital switchover. We are indebted to Laura, Ian, Colin and the team working at Stockland Hill for their help and co-operation, and to Mike Stewart of Babcock Networks Ltd.

Here the jib has been delivered and is being assembled...

Meanwhile, at the top of the mast, the mountings for the jib are being installed...

The old cylinder is lifted off...

The job seems to be going well!

And down it goes... The cylinder assembly weighs about 3.2 tons.

A section of the old access platform had aready been removed to allow the installation of the jib.

These shots look a bit murky due to the temporary low cloud cover
