HEADLESS CROSS

Photos by Dan Glover Page last updated: 2019-04-14

April 2019 - Band II in detail

It's difficult to find a good location to photograph this site - views are obstructed either by houses, trees or other parts of the building. Previous photos have not shown the receive arrangement for BBC Hereford & Worcester. Planning documents relating to the addition of DAB suggested there was a yagi to be found...

There is almost a clear view across a field to the south of the building. The Band II receive antenna was believed to be on the lower part of the roof, near the green cabin...

...and here it is.

Headless Cross relays Malvern (104.0 MHz - only 400 kHz below the transmit frequency). The combination of height difference, cross polarisation and transmit array being "behind" the receive antenna will all help to reduce the problems of obtaining a clean link in the presence of the local signal.

Further along and somewhat higher, the DAB colinear and two dipoles for the FM service.
