Comments: Ravenscraig is a relay of Black Hill

Show historic services

June 2021

The Ravenscraig UHF TV relay is located on the rooftop of Ravenscaig Court residential tower block. It entered service on 12-Dec-1980 as a 20W vertically polarised relay of Black Hill with site number 105.37. Channel 4 was added during March 1985. Various documents indicate that a horizontally polarised beam was added in the late 1990's with site number 105.57.

Tower block rooftops Tx installations are notoriously difficult to photograph. In this instance the tower block is at the bottom of a hill. Two streets up the hill and you are level with the rooftop. It is then only a case of finding gaps between the buildings and trees.

On the right is a single vertical log periodic transmit aerial . On the left is the other transmit aerial (top) and the Black Hill receive aerial (bottom).

The west facing vertical log periodic Tx aerial.

This is the other aerial pole with the receive aerial at the bottom. At the top is a slant polarised log periodic transmit aerial.

Just to prove the polarisation of the east facing Tx log is slant. I can't think of another UHF Tx site which transmits with slant polarisation, and the next question is why?
