CONTRIBUTING TO THE TRANSMISSION GALLERY
My GALLERY - THE NEW PHOTO SUBMISSION SYSTEM
mb21 now has a new system for contributing your photos.
My Gallery is a powerful system which allows you to upload your photos directly to the site and compose your own pages ready for publication.
1. REGISTER
Before you use the system for the first time you will need to create an account for yourself by specifying
- Your real name
- A user name
- A password
- Your email address
Our editors do need to know who you are and how to contact you in the event of any query so please register using your real name and your regular email address, but MyGallery is completely self-contained and your details will not be passed to anyone else.
By default your real name will be used to credit you on the site for your contributions, but this can be over-written if you wish to have your pages published under a pseudonym.
2. UPLOAD AND CREATE
As part of the submission process you will be able to
- Upload your images (up to 7Mb in size)
- Rotate your images in 90° increments (to convert between landscape and portrait aspects)
- Adjust the gamma, contrast and brightness of your images
- Free rotate your images (to straighten them up)
- Crop your images
- Save your processed image for publication
- Add specific image captions
- Add general notes and commentary
- Save and submit your images and page content for review and publication
Notes about exactly how to use the image processing features included in the system are provided on screen during the submission process and it is important that you read and understand them, because doing things in the wrong order may produce unexpected results!
TESTING TESTING...
If you are new to the system we do suggest that you first familiarise yourself with it by using the Test Area. This allows you to try out the new system without actually creating a submission. Please note that files uploaded to the Test Area will not be available in the main live area and will be purged from the server.
In providing these basic image editing facilities our aim is to achieve consistency across the site by ensuring that all images are of good quality, but the image processing features in MyGallery are ultimately not quite as flexible as those of specialist graphics applications such as Adobe Photoshop, Corel Paint Shop Pro or Google Picasa, for example. For this reason we would encourage you to process your photos before you upload them, and as the final stage of that processing images should be resized to a width of 750 (or 375 pixels as appropriate).
3. PUBLISHING
On submission your contribution will be queued for review by one of the mb21 editorial team. Immediately after submission - until our editorial team take over - you will still be able to revisit and re-edit your page/s. Our editors will then check your submission for any factual or spelling errors. We also reserve the right to re-edit or resequence pages to conform with our house style. If necessary they may also contact you via your registered email address.
We hope you will not have to wait too long before you see your new pages on the site but there will be a delay if the site is exceptionally busy or if legacy site pages require conversion.
