THE TRANSMISSION GALLERY

THE FALL & RISE OF EMLEY MOOR

Photos by Dawn Banks, Mike Onyskiw and Andrew Woodthorpe

One of the lucky few to make the trip up the tower in the lift, Dawn has contributed these superb shots of the UK's most impressive transmitter tower...

Mike Onyskiw sent in these next two photos - low, thin cloud under viewing gallery and strong sunlight above - shadow cast on cloud with site visible below. Interesting rainbow effect on shadow...

Andrew Woodthorpe's photos show us a close-up of the new AWLs (aircraft warning lights) on the Emley moor tower. The unit is 15" across and 15" overall height. This one is on the garter at the 150ft level. They run off 120V AC and typically draw 125W.

Horizontally and up to 1° above the output is 2000-2500 Candela. at 1° down and 2-3° up they are 1500-2000 Candela - which is quite bright - no wonder Bill complains!!
