| The Nottingham relay station is situated at Kimberley. This transmitter can be received in many parts of Nottingham city and surrounding areas where reception of Waltham may be impossible due to hills and Sutton Coldfield would require a high-gain aerial. Many eastern parts of the city are unfortunately screened from this relay by tall buildings in the city centre. Originally an IBA landlord site, UHF channels 1 - 3 entered service on 30th March 1973 as a relay of Sutton Coldfield. Site number 102.23. The RBL was changed to Waltham in time for the new East Midlands ITV region in 1982. Channel 4 was added in February 1984, with Channel 5 available from the launch on 30th March 1997. The UHF cylinder contains a south east facing cardioid. DTT was added early in 1999. DSO was on 30th March and 13th April 2011. |
| The small aerial at the very top was used by all the pre-DSO DTT multiplexes, except mux C, which used the main UHF aerial. |
| There are two RX logs receiving Waltham. The one in the photo above, behind the cellular aerials is a fair bit higher than the other. The outputs of the two are in fact combined. Doing this produces some very deep nulls in the Vertical Radiation Pattern, which are just what is required since this site suffered from incoming signal flutter caused by vehicles on the M1, which is just in the foreground of the RX aerials view. |
