BEE LANE (PRESTON)

Photos by Dan Glover Page last updated: 2012-06-18

June 2012

This impressive structure isn't in Bee Lane, but just across the main road, now surrounded by new housing which seems to have been built on an industrial site. It's possible the tower was originally used by one of the utility companies - it's just outside the gates of a water treatment works

Evidently the sun shines enough to fade the sign - just not today

At the very top, two Sira or similar antennas, mounted one above the other close to the tower and with a horizontal offset...

...the purpose of which seems to be to turn a near-omnidirectional mixed polarisation antenna into one with a 12dB null to the east to satisfy licencing restrictions.

Ofcom shows maximum ERP on bearing 280 but plotting the detailed data suggests the HP component favours north and south.
